Conference Round-up: Saginaw Valley climbed into the win column by dispatching Gannon, though it was hardly an inspiring effort.
Nonconference Record: 5-4
Good Wins: Tech dominated Tech, While Grand Valley survived a tough effort from UC Davis.
Bad Wins: Ferris blew two PAT’s, leaving the door open for Mesa, who missed their own 2-point attempt at the end of the game.  The Bulldogs have work to do.
Good Losses: None
Bad Losses: Hillsdale and Northwood both lost by more than expected, though certainly these weren’t disastrous results.

Good Wins: It was a rambunctious week for the Big North, filled with plenty of high-profile wins.  UND was up 28-0 at the half; USD was up 35-0 at the half; SDSU, NSU and St Cloud whacked well-regarded opponents; MSU might’ve been the most dominant of them all, leading UCO 37-0 in the 3rd quarter.  There was no shortage of marquee wins.
Bad Wins: Lost in all the huzzahs is the elephant in the room: North Dakota St does not look like North Dakota St.  While the Bison managed to beat Carson-Newman by snuffing a late onside kick, they have not looked themselves yet.
Good Losses: Eastern Nebraska led Central Missouri 34-19 into the 2nd half, and generally played very well.

Conference Round-up: Molloy pulled away late to defeat LeMoyne.
Nonconference Record: 1-7…again.  The HVAC is now 2-14 nonconference in two weeks.  And neither of those wins is from Albany, the one established program in the conference.  Yikes.
Good Wins: The one noncon win was a beaut, though.  Adelphi emerged from a wild chaotic affair with a win over Notre Dame OH.
Bad Wins: Nada
Good Losses: Saratoga and Queens both hung tough vs established opponents.
Bad Losses: Albany, as mentioned, is 0-2.  They were throttled by a good Ashland team, but still…when you’re supposed to be the foundation of a new conference, you shouldn’t turn into its anchor.

Week 2

Conference Round-up: CW Post made quick work of Lake Erie, leading 39-6 in the 3rd quarter.
Nonconference Record: 5-4
Good Wins: Central St and Sacred Heart dominated their opponents.  Millersville scored a late TD+2 to force overtime vs Bemidji, then prevailed in the 2nd OT.
Bad Wins: Stony Brook, meanwhile, limped past an outmanned opponent.
Good Losses: None
Bad Losses: Mansfield and Seton Hill were thoroughly whipped…as underdogs.  CND, as a 10-point favorite, led a wild game 34-31 at the half, fell behind 34-47 and never got over the hump, against a new program.  The Falcons were lousy in the 2nd half.

Good Wins: SE Oklahoma scored two 4th quarter touchdowns, the final one with minutes to play, to take down Mars Hill.
Bad Wins: Western Arkansas managed a feat that may go unchallenged all season: the Reddies missed five conversions.  Three PATs and two 2-point conversions.  Thus, what should have been a somewhat comfortable lead over Fort Lewis became a nail-biter.
Good Losses: None
Bad Losses: The Muleriders fell to 0-2 after getting manhandled by Tarleton St, missing two PATs in the process.

Southern Intercollegiate

Nonconference Record: 5-7
Good Wins: None that really stand out.
Bad Wins: Elon struggled past a new program, leading only 7-3 into the 4th quarter.
Good Losses: Carson-Newman took it to the mighty Bison, as they failed to recover a late onside kick that could have led to the winning score.  North Greenville…yes, the Crusaders…actually held a 10-point 2nd half lead over Pueblo St.
Bad Losses: Gardner-Webb yielded the winning TD to Slippery Rock with minutes to play, while Mars Hill surrendered two 4th quarter TD’s, and the lead…and the game.

Nonconference Record: 7-3
Good Wins: None that stand out exceptionally.
Bad Wins: There were several of these, close calls against inferior opponents.  The Bearcats trailed 0-14 early, and were tied going into the 4th quarter.  The Mules scored the final 23 points of their contest, and played sloppy.  The Lions scored the winning TD late, and the Ichabods escaped when Mines missed a potential tying 2-pt conversion.  There were some Houdini acts in Week 2.
Good Losses: None
Bad Losses: Emporia was down 20-23 entering the 4th, then got run over.  Tech got run over all game.

Good Wins: Week 2 was not as spectacular as Week 1 (when the SPAC won 9 of 11 games), but there were still many highlights.  East Texas, West Texas and Tarleton all dominated their opponents, while Cameron scored the final 41 points of their win.
Bad Wins: None
Good Losses: WNMU really took it to NW Missouri, leading 14-0 early and taking a tie into the 4th quarter.
Bad Losses: UCO was wiped out, while Angelo actually led their game 17-14 before collapsing.  The Rams could be in trouble.

Nonconference Record: 2-7
Good Wins: NM Highlands took a 35-0 early 2nd quarter lead, which grew to 48-10 at the half.  The Cowboys are proving to have an explosive offense.
Bad Wins: Pueblo was sluggish and found themselves down 10 in the 3rd quarter to a team they were favored over by four touchdowns.
Good Losses: While the RMAC does not have a stellar record thus far this young season (6-13), there have been some close heartbreaking losses.  Just this past week we saw Mesa miss a tying 2-point conversion at the end of the game; Western led by a point in the 4th quarter; Mines missed an early PAT, setting the stage for a missed 2-pointer end of game; and Fort Lewis trailed by one late as a 23-point underdog – the upset possibility was real.
Bad Losses: Fort Hays could not have played worse if they had spent the week on the moon.  Seriously lousy effort.  And they gave up two safeties.

Conference Round-up: AIC handled Assumption pretty much as expected.
Nonconference Record: 4-5
Good Wins: Merrimack played exceptionally well, taking a 42-21 lead into the final quarter.  St Michael’s, it should be pointed out, is the only 2-0 team in the NE-12 – and they’re a new program.  Congrats to the Purple Knights for a stellar start to their football existence.
Bad Wins: None
Good Losses: Quinnipiac played well against Northern St as a 27-point underdog.  The bobcats were tied 34-all into the 4th quarter.
Bad Losses: There were some bad results: SoConn and St Anselm were pummeled, while Bryant led into the 4th quarter and surrendered the decisive touchdown with moments to play.

Nonconference Record: A deflating 2-7
Good Wins: While ‘good’ might not be the best descriptor, Moorhead’s victory over Springfield was dramatic.  The Dragons gave up a tying TD+2 in the closing moments, then prevailed in triple overtime.
Bad Wins: Despite coming in as a 4 TD favorite, Northern St had all kinds of trouble putting away Quinnipiac.  The game was tied at 34 heading into the 4th, the Wolves forged ahead 47-34, then it tightened up again.
Good Losses: None
Bad Losses: Oy, were there bad losses.  Winona was down 0-28 at the half; SW Minnesota was down 0-35 at the half; Concordia was up 20-14 in the 2nd half and surrendered the final 24 points of the game.  Bemidji suffered the most heartbreaking of these losses, up 24-16 late before yielding a TD+2, then falling in double overtime.

Conference Round-up: Quincy jumped out to a 20-0 lead, withstood a KY Wesleyan comeback (27-27), then pulled away for the victory.
Nonconference Record: 6-3
Good Wins: OH Dominican spotted Humboldt 10 points, then roared back for the win.  Kentucky St handled Mansfield with ease.
Bad Wins: None
