Group XXX

Nonconference Record: 6-4
Good Wins: Erskine outscored York 38-3 in the 2nd half, Longwood played superbly and Mount Olive managed to hold leads.
Bad Wins: None
Good Losses: None
Bad Losses: Pfeiffer…oh dear Pfeiffer, a 2-0 loss is about as ugly as it gets.  Truly, it doesn’t get more atrocious than losing on a safety, when that safety is the only score of the game….aaaghh.

Conference Round-up: The first Metro North game of the season went to overtime.  NY Tech scored the tying touchdown late, then prevailed in OT.
Nonconference Record: 2-7
Good Wins: Hunter scored the final 17 points of the game for their first win ever.
Bad Wins: The Merchant Marines were favored by six touchdowns, and were wretched.
Good Losses: Philadelphia, in their first-ever game, tied their contest late at 27-all, yet managed only a FG in overtime.  NYU, in a game of surges, scored late to cut their deficit to two, yet came up short as 2 TD underdogs.
Bad Losses: Maritime scored the first 14 points against a new program, then were not heard from again.  CCNY took a 3-0 lead, and were promptly outscored 3-37 the remainder of the game.  Stevens Tech was never in their contest.

Division 10

Conference Round-up: Virginia Intermont stuffed Sue Bennett’s late touchdown attempt to preserve victory in the first-ever Blue Ridge conference game.
Nonconference Record: 2-6
Good Wins: The wins have been hard to come by (4-16 through two weeks), so bright spots are necessary.  Wheeling’s victory over Eastern Vermont was steady, and they picked up a safety.
Bad Wins: None
Good Losses: Virginia Highlands actually led Temple 7-0 & 14-7 in the first half; the Cavaliers played well and held their own for the most part.
Bad Losses: Bluefield fell behind 10-35 in the 2nd quarter, and never closed the gap.

Nonconference Record: 5-7
Good Wins: In their opener, Mount Mercy maintained a steady lead over Southern Virginia, enough to withstand a final assault.  Edgewood dominated Bluefield in the 1st half, leading 35-10 in the 2nd quarter.
Bad Wins: When you win a football game 2-0 on a 4th quarter safety, in a game entirely bereft of offensive highlights, the only word to describe it is ugly.  Okay, there are plenty of other words, but I’m trying to keep this site PG-rated.
Good Losses: Northland was within one score very late in their game vs Point.
Bad Losses: Aquinas was down 7-49 at one point against Reinhardt, while Mount St Clare was bottled up offensively all game.

Nonconference Record: 5-6
Good Wins: Comebacks were the theme in Week 2 of the Eastern Conference.  Neumann was down 7-24 in the 2nd quarter, Arcadia fell behind 10-21 after one quarter and Marywood was down 0-7 early before scoring 27 straight.  Scranton didn’t need the dramatics, holding a comfortable lead most of the game.
Bad Wins: None
Good Losses: Against an established team, Cabrini was down only 0-10 into the 4th quarter.
Bad Losses: York and Messiah both gave up midgame leads.  The Falcons gave up the 17 points of their game, and the Spartans were clobbered 3-38 in the 2nd half.

American North

Conference Round-up: Santa Clara made it look easy in the 4th quarter, after trailing Seattle 23-28 entering the final quarter.
Nonconference Record: 7-3
Good Wins: Several new programs in the Western are doing well, although the results from Week 2 were not as dramatic as Week 1.  Denver, in particular, looks like it is going to be a solid program in Division 3.
Bad Wins: Any game that ends in a 3-0 score is eligible for the term ugly, and USF’s win over St Peter’s was no exception.
Good Losses: None
Bad Losses: USD faced an early test from Grambling, but weren’t up for the fight, falling behind 13-38 in the 4th quarter.  Arizona Valley was never in their game.

Good Wins: It took one half of play, but once the Blue Devils got rolling, they were unstoppable.  The Red Flash looked fine, even considering the level of competition.
Bad Wins: The Colonials were not in control against an overmatched opponent.
Good Losses: Mount St Mary’s was in it for a half, the Terriers were in it most of the game, and the Blackbirds clawed back from a 21-point deficit to scare the Bears.
Bad Losses: Wagner is in trouble with an 0-2 start to the season, and weren’t particularly sharp in the loss to Dayton.  Marist got outplayed by a first-year program.  FDU, UDC and Brooklyn were all blown out.

Bad Wins: None
Good Losses: Marquette nearly took down an established SWAC team, while Xavier came up one score short in a back & forth affair.
Bad Losses: Butler was within 3 in the 4th quarter, then got routed.

Good Wins: Grambling took out USD with a dominating 2nd half; Alcorn took out Bucknell with a strong 4th quarter.
Bad Wins: AAMU scored an ugly win against a first-year program.
Good Losses: None
Bad Losses: In a back & forth contest, Alabama St opted for a field goal while down 38-44 in the 4th quarter and did not have a viable scoring opportunity after that.

Nonconference Record: 6-3
Good Wins: Villanova’s win over Coastal Carolina was an awesome game, capable of going in either direction; the Wildcats stayed just enough ahead to pull out the victory.  As for the new kids on the block, Seton Hall and Providence might just be playoff teams.  Seriously, these new programs look to be mature programs already.
Bad Wins: Despite the final score, Temple looked sluggish.
Good Losses: St Joseph’s missed a PAT in OT….
Bad Losses: St John’s was humiliated.

Conference Round-up: Davidson bounced Stetson in the first Big South conference game of the season.
Nonconference Record: 5-4
Good Wins: It took until the 4th quarter, but Liberty finally got separation on Butler.  Radford has won the first two games of their existence while averaging 57 ppg.
Bad Wins: CSU led only 10-0 at the half, and did not perform like the playoff contender they are.
Good Losses: Coastal found itself in a shootout with Villanova, trading scores all game.  The Chants played well, yet came up just short.  Mercer came back from a 20-point 4th quarter deficit, also coming up just short.
Bad Losses: Asheville missed a PAT in the 1st quarter that set the stage for two 2-pt misses later on, ultimately being the difference in their loss.  Campbell absorbed a good ol’ fashioned whipping, and from a first-year program.

Good Wins: The ECC is now 17-5 over two weeks, so many of these schools are doing something right.  In Week 2, William & Mary and Lehigh blasted outmanned foes; Richmond, ODU and Lafayette were all impressive.  Perhaps the most dominating performance was turned in by the Towson Tigers, who thoroughly humiliated St John’s in the latter’s opener.

Good Losses: AU and Bucknell led into the 4th quarter.

Southwestern

Nonconference Record: 9-2 (following 8-4 from opening week)
Good Wins: When a conference – especially a brand-new conference – is 17-6 after two weeks, you’re doing something right.  Many SCC schools are doing something right.  The Reinhardt machine rolls on (149 points scored in two games), while Ave Maria, Concordia and East Florida all had particularly impressive victories.
Bad Wins: The only ugly duckling out of this slate of wins came from Webber & Illinois Tech.  At one point in the 3rd quarter, the score was 12-2….four FGs vs a safety.
Good Losses: North Georgia stayed close to Winthrop, tying it in the 4th quarter with a TD+2.

Conference Round-up: Pan Am jumped all over KC, leading 37-10 in the 4th quarter, before the Kangaroos made a furious comeback.
Nonconference Record: 5-3
Good Wins: Corpus Christi played excellently in all phases of the game, while Wilmington scored two 4th quarter TDs to pull out a victory.
Bad Wins: None
Good Losses: None
Bad Losses: It’s not that UNO played horribly, it’s that Flagler played outta their ever-lovin’ minds.  In two games, the Privateers have scored 129 points while giving up 111 points.  For those of you scoring at home (and who doesn’t love to score at home), this equates to a 64-55 average game, which means that there has potentially been more explosive plays at Privateers games than on Bourbon Street.
